Successful debt collection for Hatton Garden jeweller. An established Hatton Garden, London jeweller suffered for two years.

Two ladies bought engagement rings for themselves in 2016. One paid by debit card the other said she would make a bank transfer. The jeweller aloud them to take the rings away with them. She didn’t pay as she said she would. Two years later the ring remained unpaid for. Many promises of payment, many stories of bad luck and hard times. Even saying although the two women had married in July they were in fact now apart.

To add insult to injury, the dishonest party said she would return the ring. Now the jeweller reluctantly agreed to take back the ring. His thought process was it was better to have the item back than nothing at all.

What transpired was this. A package arrived at our clients offices and as the debtor was under suspicion. The jeweller videoed the package opening process…….Yes guess what, no contents..!!

We were contacted and immediately got in touch with the debtor. It transpired through our investigations that the two women were happily married to each other. Flaunting their lifestyle all over social media, Facebook, Instagram etc………flash Caribbean holidays, weddings twice over, in the United Kingdom and overseas.

It took just 7 days for the debtor to understand the implications of their actions. We successful recovered the full balance outstanding for our client.

We seldom get involved in what we would describe as retail debt. As a rule a retailer would not allow a customer to leave without full payment. In this particular case our client was sucked in and his generosity was abused. Fortunately with our involvement the debtor took the right route and paid within the allotted time frame.
